One of the most important lessons I learned in life is that history teaches us one thing… change is inevitable. Well, change has obviously come to Mr. Blahg (the site… not the person… because the person is fictitious, sort of). Not only does the site look different, it has a few new features, a couple of fun little added doo-dads, and sadly, a new policy regarding comments.
First, the fun stuff. Because I don’t have the time or the inclination to actually design my own site, I’ve relied on templates provided by WordPress and 1&1, my lovely host. The previous template I used didn’t allow for much customization, but frankly… I didn’t care too much, I was more interested in getting the words out. The new template I am using is much more friendly in terms of customization and is substantially more modern in appearance and functionality. Although, it took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to add the silly picture above, it really is a smoother system on this end of things… I just need to adjust to the changes.
If you are on a computer, as opposed to a mobile device, please note the cute little icon on your browser’s tab. That’s right… that’s my little visage smiling down on you from on high. Also, you can now “follow” me on Twitter and “like” me on Facebook via the buttons to your right… features I was unable to add before. Gone are the categories, I’m now using a cloud of tags… plus, a handy search bar. Let me know if the layout works for you, it’s now super easy for me to make changes and to respond to readers wishes.
Unfortunately, with the good usually comes the bad. I had a fantastic system before of weeding out Spammers… that system is gone, and being the cheap bastard that I am, I’m not going to pay for a filter. What I am now going to ask of you is that you first register before you can post a comment. I realize it’s a hassle because you will have to create a username and give your email that will then generate a password for you that you will have to retrieve via your email. It’s cumbersome and will probably deter many from leaving a comment. For that I apologize. I tried to simply moderate everything that came in, but I woke up with over 50 Spam messages for me to sift through and make sure I wasn’t deleting anything viable. I don’t want to miss a single message you, my lovely readers, leave for me…
I think that about covers it for now. Look for my review of the season finale of The Walking Dead next week, in addition to my weekly review of Game of Thrones, which will be premiering on Sunday… plus whatever else tickles my fancy in the intervening days. If you have any requests or comments, feel free to register or send me an email directly to email@example.com.
Thanks for reading,
Cornelius J. Blahg
