This has been one hell of a week for James Bond… first, he aided the Queen in her dramatic airborne entrance into the London Olympics; now the first full trailer for Skyfall has been released… and it looks to be quite spectacular.
This year marks, not only the 60th year as Queen for Elizabeth II, but the 50th year for James Bond (a new collection of all 22 Bond films on Blu-ray will be released in September)… only fitting that he would escort Her Majesty… and even more fitting that many of the legal and financial troubles over the years with this particular franchise have been ironed out to the point that we are allowed to celebrate the aforementioned 50th. anniversary with a new film.
Like most Bond films, the details as to the villain and the plot have been kept quieter than a visit with MI6 from one foolish American presidential candidate. What we do know is that M (Dame Judy Dench) is in trouble and Bond’s (Daniel Craig) loyalty to her, and country, are tested. The villain, Silva (Javier Bardem), is an unknown quantity at this point. The only conclusion I can come to regarding his role is that Bardem is joining the “Christopher Walken Weird Hair Club for Men”. Yes, we got weird hair in No Country for Old Men friend-o, and yes, Christopher Walken was once a Bond Villain as well in A View to a Kill. What does weird hair have to do with the film? Nothing… I just got a kick out of seeing a blonde Javier Bardem. (Is he Mr. White? Is he part of Quantum?)
Although this trailer does not answer any of those questions… it does answer at least one… Q (Ben Whishaw) is back… as is the Walther PPK, with a few modifications. Although the cast list doesn’t include Felix Leiter, I’m going to assume we don’t have the full cast list… plus, there are a number of people without names attached. Will we meet our new Moneypenny? Who will Ralph Fiennes be? So many questions…
In case you haven’t figured this out yet, I am a huge Bond fan and have been looking forward to this for some time. I am also an unabashed Daniel Craig fan… I consider him to be the second best if not THE best Bond we’ve seen thus far. Who is your favorite Bond and why? Discuss. I expect you dye… your roots,
