Peter Falk, best known as the detective Colombo, has died from Alzheimers disease at the age of 83.
He was a legendary actor who made his name on both the small and large screens and is best recalled as the rumpled raincoat wearing detective Colombo. For me however, I have always preferred his rather meta performance in Wim Wenders Wings of Desire. In that film he portrayed himself on location in Berlin making a Colombo TV movie who happens to have previously been an angel himself and offers warm words and some advise for a newly human angel. Another great yet small role, the grandfather telling the tale of The Princess Bride.
Humorously enough, whenever I see Mr. Falk pop up on TV I usually think of a history professor that Mrs. Blahg had a bit of a crush on… he happened to look like Peter Falk with a mustache. Winning combination I suppose.
Rest in peace Peter Falk.
May your raincoat keep you dry,
Cornelius J. Blahg
