As you may have guessed by now, I’m a sucker for crappy B-movies… and the last two movies of that particularly specialized genre of bowel inhabiting matter have both featured the trailers for Battle: Los Angeles, and from what I’ve seen I’d say it looks right up my alley.
Starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriquez and Bridget Moynahan this movie has the look and feel of something that will be either very awesome in a District 9 sort of way… or very bad, like a Skyline (in all fairness, I never saw Skyline, but it came and went so quickly I’m guessing it wasn’t that great… I could be wrong). Or, if I’m reading my gut correctly, it could very well be somewhere in the neighborhood of Starship Troopers. And that has the potential to be great.
What we get from the trailer is that earth is being colonized by aliens and our military is fighting them, Bridget Moynahan is a mom, Aaron Eckhart is sensitive, in a real stretch going against typecast, Michelle Rodriquez is tough… and it takes place in Los Angeles. What more do we need? Looks gritty… heavy on the hand-held and splicing in different camera sources documentary style… and maybe even a bit of sentimental cheese. Once you see the little girl in danger you know what you are in for.
Wait until spring…
